Norris Edges Out Oscar Piastri in Sao Paulo Practice
The British driver has outscored his teammate at each of the past five grands prix.
Lando Norris edged out fellow driver and title rival the Australian for the fastest time in the final moments of practice at the Brazilian Grand Prix.
The British racer, who took the points lead from his teammate by just one point after winning in Mexico City recently, topped the Melbourne-born driver by a mere 0.023s.
Earlier in the session, Piastri had been the leading McLaren throughout the hour before the sprint shootout due at 6:30 PM GMT.
Max Verstappen, the only other driver in realistic title contention, lying 36 points Norris, was classified in P17 as his team followed a different programme.
His teammate Yuki Tsunoda was the sole competitor to go off, if briefly, when he spun at Turn Four early in the session.
Tsunoda spun out over the curbs on exit before spinning across the run-off area, and was blessed to avoid just a minor contact of the barrier.
Ferrari's the seven-time champion also had a spin, at the final moments of the session, turning around through the quick descending corner leading to the last turn on to the start-finish straight.
Hamilton ended the session in 19th, trailing team-mate Charles Leclerc.
The McLaren drivers were far ahead of the other competitors, with Nico Hulkenberg's car third fastest, 0.619 seconds slower than Piastri's best.
The Aston Martin of the Spanish driver was fourth fastest, with Sauber's Bortoleto fifth from the Mercedes of Russell and Alpine's Gasly and the Williams of Sainz.
